COVID-19 Booster shots: Why do you need one?

The COVID-19 vaccines are effective at preventing severe disease. However, studies and data have shown that the vaccination becomes less effective over time, especially in people aged 65 years and over. Over time, it also becomes less effective at preventing infection or milder illness with symptoms, again especially in older people.

A COVID-19 booster vaccine shot is an additional dose of the vaccine given after the protection provided by the initial two doses (the primary series) has begun to decrease. The booster is designed to help people maintain their level of immunity for longer.

In Malaysia, the Ministry of Health recommends a booster shot for everyone 18 years or older who are without comorbidities.

If you are unsure about whether or not you need a booster, talk to one of our Qualitas doctors, who will consider your individual health and needs before giving you advice.

Book an appointment to consult with a doctor, or for your vaccination or booster through our Patient Portal.
